A Bletchingley ramble

Staring Point: War Memorial, High Street. Distance: Approx 2 miles. Time: 1/2 hour.

  1. From the war memorial near the Post Office go down Church Walk between the pillar box and The Old Butchers Shop. Cross the churchyard to the right. Leave by a gate and step down to a lane. Turn left and continue, then turn left again by a finger post opposite Bletchingley Golf Club entrance, to go alongside the golf course to a finger post. Ignoring the stile on the right, go over the grass and bear right downhill alongside a post and rail fence to a stile. Go forward along the top of the field to cross a stile and continue by the corner of the bank. Keeping the bank on your left go down the next field, crossing further stiles and reach a surfaced path.
  2. Turn left on an old lane coming up from Brewer Street. After crossing Dormers Farm drive continue up the path ahead, above the lane, to a junction of lanes by a small engineering works. Turn right up steps to a small playing field then left to a path along the top. Turn left and rejoin the lane by Tilburstow House, turning right to meet the A25 beside The Manse.
  3. Cross the top of the High Street and go down Castle Square. On the left, with seats, where the road way branches and starts downhill, take the footpath straight ahead. The path goes down to a stile and on between fences to another stile near a field gate.
  4. Turn left to the junction of tracks ahead and go left. Reach a stile and gate near an attractive pond and follow the track which curves uphill to another gate and stile beside Castle Hill Farmhouse then continues uphill to return to Castle Square. Walk foward to the High Street, cross over and turn right down to the starting point.
