A Challenger stroll in Haslemere

Start: This walk begins and ends at Haslemere station. Distance: 8.3 miles.

1. From Haslemere train station, turn left along pavement. After Tanners Lane cross road and continue along raised pavement. At road junction cross back and continue on pavement turning left up High Street. After Georgian House Hotel, turn left down narrow footpath between walls (or continue up High Street to Haslemere Educational Museum).
2. Bear right at footpath junction. Cross road and turn left, continuing round along pavement passingSt Bartholomews Church. At end of railings cross road and join narrow footpath. Cross road and go over stile then proceed along path ownhill. At road turn left then right up track, bearing left at fork. Bear right along access track to road. At road turn right passing bridleway on left then go left down footpath and through gate. Keep ahead on narrow path.
3. At path junction continue ahead. Where path forks take left hand path, through gate and along wooded path. At top of hill continue ahead towards main road. (Cross road to reach Punchbowl Cafe). Before road turn right down track. Pass buildings and continue ahead through gate. Where paths cross continue up slope. At path junction turn left. Go through gate by cattle grid. At path junction keep ahead.
4. Bear right where paths fork and go past car park to Gibbet Hill. (To reach Hindhead Youth Hostel, 1.5km away turn left along path out of car park and parallel with A3. Cross road to join track on other side and follow to reach Youth Hostel). With cross on left, take narrow footpath downhill. At path junction turn right. Where paths cross bear left up hill. Where path forks keep to right hand track. At junction take second path to left. Follow path downhill round right hand bend and continue ahead.
5. At fork take right hand path, passing house on right. Turn left down bridleway into woods then between fields. Continue on track past farm buildings. At junction turn right under bridge and continue over stream. At main road turn right along pavement. At All Saints Church cross road and proceed diagonally across village green towards play area. At road cross over and turn left along pavement.
6. At road junction proceed straight ahead down bridleway. Go through small gate and proceed along path bearing right across field. After small copse, bear left to corner of field then right along field edge, proceeding through hedge and across next field. After next hedge turn right. At tarmac track, turn left then right proceeding through farmyard and continue to road. Bear left across road then ahead along field edge.
7. Go left over stile and right along track. Go through gate and continue along field edges and through five more gates into woodland. Where path forks bear left. Go through gate and straight across field to gate between buildings at Swan Barn Farm and proceed along track. At road turn right along pavement.
8. Continue along road to station.
